Introduction

As a non-aligned country without armed forces, Liechtenstein was one of the founding members of the CSCE process in the year 1975, which led to the creation of the OSCE, headquartered in Vienna, in 1995. The OSCE is currently the only international organisation dealing with European security issues and conflicts on the European continent in which Liechtenstein participates on an equal footing. Since Liechtenstein has a direct interest in security issues in Europe and conflicts on the European continent have consequences also for Liechtenstein, this access and the opportunity to actively participate in the OSCE´s work are essential.

As regards Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and Stockpiles of Conventional Ammunition (SCA), Liechtenstein has been a regular financial contributor to extra-budgetary OSCE projects in recent years. Liechtenstein´s focus has been on supporting SALW and SCA projects in countries of the Western Balkans.
